Colorado Boxed Beef Company Supports Culinary Education with IGNITE Competition
Culinary competition offers scholarship opportunity to student chefs that participate in cook-off challenge with High River Angus Beef and Diamond Reef Ocean Products
LAKELAND, FLORIDA, October 14, 2019 – Colorado Boxed Beef Company® (CBB) is conducting collegiate culinary challenge, IGNITE, to support local college student chefs, the company announced today. The competition offers a total prize pool of $3,000 in scholarship funds to winning students toward their culinary education. The IGNITE Collegiate Culinary Challenge, supported by CBB brands High River Angus® Beef and Diamond Reef Ocean Products™, is presenting its inaugural event at this year’s The Taste of Colorado Show on October 18th at the Omni ChampionsGate Resort located in Championsgate, Florida.
Eight culinary students from Valencia College will compete in the inaugural event for a scholarship award from 11:30am to 4:00pm. The competition is designed to be a fast-paced cook-off to showcase the students’ creativity and skills in the culinary arts. There will be two initial rounds of competing teams comprised of two students each. Round one is the High River Angus competition, whereby the teams will have 15 minutes to craft a recipe containing Sirloin Bavette and side dish from ingredients provided in a mystery basket, and 30 minutes to prepare it for the judges. Round two is the Diamond Reef competition where two different teams will compete in the same format using Mahimahi as the protein. The winners from each round will advance to the championship, a surf-n-turf competition featuring Chuck Shoulder Petite Tender and Tail on Shrimp from each brand plus the mystery basket. Each round will be judged by three individuals on performance, execution and creativity.
